Meet Our 2015 Grantees!

Five of the nation's top cancer research scientists receive $225,000 grants

Gabrielle's Angel Foundation recently announced five new Medical Research Awards. This year's grants total over $1.2 million and with them, the Foundation expands its list of institutions funded to include The Ohio State University & University of Utah.

Recipients include: David M. Barrett, MD, PhD of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia; Michael B. Major, PhD of UNC Lineberger (shown here); Ryan M. O'Connell, PhD of the University of Utah; Lukas D. Wartman, MD of Washington University at Saint Louis and Jianhua Yu, PhD of The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Yu receives this year's honorary Dr. Janet D. Rowley Medical Research Award, named in memory of the lauded cancer research pioneer and Foundation Medical Advisory Board member. Dr. Rowley succumbed to ovarian cancer in December of 2013. 

Additional one-time grants were also awarded to seven other junior investigators at the nation’s leading institutions as well as three grants through the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation. The Foundation also provided support for music therapy and select medical conferences.
